AUSTIN, TX -- July 13th, 2006 -- There is a new face at the offices of Stray Bullet Games. Mark Nausha, formerly Director of Development for Sony Online Entertainment, recently joined the Stray Bullet team as the President and Chief Executive Officer.

"I saw the potential of Stray Bullet Games to become a leading developer in the online gaming space," says Mark. "The chance to work with trusted friends and carve out a future in the explosive online games market was too good to resist."

Mark is no stranger to the game development industry. He began his career in the early 1990s at Interactive Designs, where he worked as a Project Manager and later instrumental in the acquisition of Interactive Designs by SEGA. Mark then worked at SEGA on the original Eternal Champions for the Genesis and Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side on the SEGA CD where he worked alongside Stray Bullet team members Ala Diaz and Frank Lucero. During his tenure with Interactive Designs and Sega, Nausha shipped 14 games.

In 1995, Nausha left Sega and joined Interplay Productions where he was the director of the Action/Arcade Division. He directly managed six producers and had ultimate responsibility for 30+ titles. Interplay's involvement with Shiny Entertainment, makers of Earthworm Jim and MDK, fell under Nausha's jurisdiction during his time with Interplay. Mark then joined Point of View as Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer.

More recently, Mark took a position at Sony Online Entertainment as Director of Development, where he oversaw live support and development of Everquest and Everquest II.

"Mark brings a huge range of expertise, ranging from console games to cutting edge MMO development", says Frank Lucero, Vice President of Product Development and Chief Operations Officer of Stray Bullet Games. "It's rare to find an individual with Mark's depth of experience, even more so to find someone at this level you can unequivocally trust. Having worked with Mark in the past, it was a no-brainer to bring Mark on board at Stray Bullet Games."

Stray Bullet Games is forming one of the most creative, talented, and experienced teams in the industry. Interested parties that wish to learn more can email shoot@straybulletgames.com or visit the website at www.straybulletgames.com.

So he is the boss then. I thought that was Ubiq's department. Anywho great to have you aboard. Hopefully you can bring some good insight into the pve department for these guys, though they own the pvp department.

Who would do that?

I imagine that he'll continue to let Ashen to be the voice box for SBG for the bad news and he'll only post when the new's good.

Don't you love life as a CM Ashen?

Not really. This is a new day. The reason I said that picking on the boss (Mark) would get you banned is because unlike, ahem… previous forums we have been involved with, we are going to do our best to keep the Stray Bullet Games forums positive. I would prefer to be able to keep a playful relationship with the player-base, and create an atmosphere where the developers (even the CEO) can come here and put their thoughts, opinions, and general banter in writing, without being subjected to the typical verbal assault that usually develops on MMO boards. I want that to happen. Unfortunately, that is a rare thing.

Hence, the moment that the typical negative BS starts, we will begin terminating accounts. Criticism is constructive; insults and name calling are not. That is why we are not going to put up with it, and you know what? We don’t have to. We are beholden to ourselves and no other entity. It is simple logic: We will treat you with respect, and we would like the same returned to us.

So far, so good.

When is "Get together to hold hands and sing Kumbaya" night?

Seriously though I do hope this works out. The more people that are in a virtual community, the harder it's going to be for you to maintain control without using the "Ban-Bat" very liberally. Sooner or later this forum will have thousands of people in it and to expect them all to play nice, even with heavy handed moderating, would be naive.

You are right, and I hope my MMO niavety will not allow my spirit to be crushed when the trolls appear. :p

Seriously, if we want this to work out, the first and foremost step is to set the standard, and have our community understand and try to follow this standard. My goal is to have this understood from the offset, and to follow through (as best we are able) with the promise that we will respect the players who come here with good intentions, and annihilate those who don't.

After all, I put the F.U. in BAN.

Ha! Druwish! I bannned so many MF's in UO I lost count the first MONTH. The CS policy in the game was so convoluted it was insane. That's what comes with discovering everything that others will later learn from. UO CS tried to be all things to all people, and that cannot work. It was the most thankless work I have ever done, and the GMs who worked for me were great, tireless workers who truly loved the game.

I loved that game too. Three years on Seige as a f'ing orc. I had over a thousand long term counts.

On a serious note, how does someone go from Director of Development at a monster like SOE to CEO of a small start-up like SBG? I'm not sure Nausha posts on these boards but I'm actually interested in why the big switch. I can see why he would want to branch out and head something that may be great (or may flop), but I bet the job at SOE was pretty cush. Isn't he a bit overqualified to lead a bunch of no talent posers like you former WP punks? I'm j/k btw, in case you guys aren't wearing your sarcasm sombreros today.

I understand that CW... being the CEO of a start-up is risky business though. And title doesn't imply great wealth nor is it evidence of an actual huge advancement either. I'm director of public relations for a small film company, and you know what my salary is - $0. I was just wondering why he decided to leave SOE and go rogue... or in other words, leave the show to manage a AAA team out of Central Texas.

Big Risk = Possibility of Big Reward.

Maybe it was for personal reasons? Perhaps he didn't like the prodcut he was developing, or the restraints he was given at such a huge corporation.

If you haven't experience corporate America I can't blame anyone bailing on that for a situation they could control.

EnvieD
07-19-2006, 01:30 PM
There are still plenty of idealist dreamers out there (like me) who would rather be poor and independent than wealthy and a mouthbot.

I don't know his reasons for leaving SOE, but I too have worked in the corporate world and would take the small potatoes over it anyday. Being a chance taker in our day and age is rare, but freedom to create, freedom to dream, invent and start your own business are the foundations our country is built on. It's too bad we've all lost so much of the focus our ancestors had beneath the brunt of modern corporate America's power.

I say, hats off to the little guys who still take risks and Good Luck!!

"More recently, Mark took a position at Sony Online Entertainment as Director of Development, where he oversaw live support and development of Everquest and Everquest II."

ExplictX- In this thread we explained in detail what would happen to peeps who took shots at Mark. We also explained why we are taking a harder stance on negative posts, and what we expect from the members of these forums. Respect=respect. Obviously Zooks cared nothing about this, so he is ashes.

Here is a thought, and it is just me putting an idea out there; what if players banned from our forums are then also banned from playing our future games?

Not sure how you could honestly do that, but you'd be snipping a huge chunk of potential costumer profits..

Anywyas, thanks for answering my question. I had concerns with.. Another SoE game that took some rather , unfotunate turns in it's development. And hoped, that similar.. " issues " would not be something to worry about for SBG, ShadowBane, and future SBG games.

It's awesome how negative the general gaming population is for MMOs. Usually people in a business learn from past mistakes or mishaps and try to do different in future projects. Nobody posting here knows exactly what or why things went wrong on past projects and for all we know those reasons might be the exact reason Mark wanted to come work with SBG.

I know if I had an opportunity to work with friends on an exciting and potentially extremely profitable start up I'd jump at it in a second and leave my cushy job behind.

As far as players being held accountable in game for their out of game actions... about damn time. We'd likely not have the current problem in /global with SB if people would act like adults and realize there are consequences for their actions.

I would think it would be better to ban someone from future games who is caught duping ingame. Or other serious exploits. I dont think its good to do it for them being an *** on your forums. But I would like to see forum banes turn into ingame bans aswell. I think that would really help clean up the community. Granted if that is done it needs to be only the developers who can ban someone that way, not players who are volunteering as mods.

I think these type of steps are long over due for keeping the playerbase inline. Though that means there are times I would have been baned for my bad mouth
