View Full Version : Ashen Temper Embarks On a New Adventure
SBGNews

We regret to announce that today is the last day that Sean Dahlberg, aka Ashen Temper, will be with Stray Bullet Games, LLC. Most of us have worked with Sean for several years and we will miss his presence at the office. We wish Sean the best as he pursues new opportunities.
While this will result in changes here, it will not disrupt our projects or community. During the interim, Xanther will be overtaking the community tasks for Shadowbane.

As announced, today ends a chapter in the life of “Ashen Temper”. For me, it’s been quite a saga and I have met some fantastic people. Some I’ve been working with for over four years, Meridian for about seven years. In fact, Shadowbane itself has been a part of my life for over eight years; dating back to when I learned about the game and ran the unofficial forums on Stratics and later worked on the Shadowbane Vault before becoming a member of Wolfpack Studios, Inc.
This has been a really hard decision for me to make but recently a new opportunity presented itself to me. It wasn’t easy to think of moving; this is the best group of people I’ve had the pleasure to work with in and out of the game industry. I’m a true believer in the ideas and concepts behind Stray Bullet Games’ “future fantasy” project. And yet this is one of those rare opportunities that will bring me to a new level within my career.
As for Shadowbane and the “future fantasy” project; I’m leaving the design, direction, and community in very capable hands. Shadowbane I can now play like a normal player and I can’t wait for the “future fantasy” project to get to a stage where we are all playing it. I just wonder who I’ll have to bribe to get into Beta…
Also, I'm going to point out a short story that Meridian posted on the Shadowbane Board on here... The Death of Ashen Temper. (http://www.straybulletgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3451)

sorry to see you go ashen, I wish you luck in your future endeavors, and I'll always remember the awesome events you'd lead and great battles on various servers, to make things fun good luck!

I know one of the questions will be "Where you going?" because I've gotten them quite a few times over the last minute on my messenger... right now I can't say. But for those who want to keep in touch, my blahg on Looking4Group is still there (and I write a little more as to pertaining to all of this).

Ashen,
You've been the consistent developer presence since Shadowbane's earliest beta testing...through commercial release...through purchase by Ubisoft...through death of Wolfpack and birth of Stray Bullet Games. While a few of us still remember Warden, Vosx and Ashton Kai...there is no question that it has always been you who has been the linchpin keeping this rambling wreck on the road. For all of SB's faults, for all of its shortcomings, missteps and mishaps...there is no question that SB is still the ultimate PvP MMORPG....and there is no question that you've been instrumental in making that happen.
Thank you Ashen...for everything you've done...right or wrong, good or bad...its been one hell of a ride!

Ashen has most definitely been key in helping me learn what I know today. I've worked alongside him for the majority of my tenure here and have absorbed a great amount of information in both Shadowbane and other areas of expertise beyond my previous knowledge.
You will be sorely missed my friend.

Its like an end of an era. We have all quit and restarted the addiction of this game several times. Everytime time we come back the person waiting on the corner to feed the addiction has always been Ashen. You've been that familar face, that everytime we return we know its like comin home. Through thick and then Ashen has always been there to hear us *****, whine, and praise the game.
Ashen I wish you good luck on the new opportunity you have. You have maintained a level head through out the history of this game, and were still able to keep a down to earth approach to the community.
I may not have agreed with all decisions but I do wish more developers and community managers had the "it" factor you have. Your thought process on posts has always been presented as a "gamer" and not as a person thinking of profit. You reached out to the community and I enjoyed my opportunities to have your ear at times and even get interviewed as a focus player.
You've been through alot with this game more so than most people would ever see (hyped beta, release, purchase by UBI, reorgs, wolfpack shutdown, new company, etc). Anyhow dont fade away, we need people that have your drive to listen and make games players like those in this community want to play.
(dont disapear like vosx did)
Its been a fun 6+ years playin with ya and waiting for an "Ashen" update post on the forums for patch notes. (damn cant believe Ive been playing this game for almost 6+ years.) How many games have a life cycle that long?
were those kind words enough to get me into the next beta :)

I won't attempt to duplicate what Gradishar has said so well - you have been a vital presence in the companies you have been a part of, this community you are involved in and our consciousness as gamers and game makers; I have no doubt your presence will continue to be felt where-ever your future takes you. Good luck Sean, and good game. :)

I've been with FreeCorps, Lews, Ellowyn and many others since beta. I wish you well in all future endeavours and thank you for having a significant impact in that which many are still engrossed in.
The MMORPG bar has been set higher thanks to the efforts of all involved in the pseudo life we call SB.
Thank you - and good fortune Sir!

wow...even though we never met i feel like i've known you for the past five years, Ashen, since the beta. Kinda sucks you're leaving now. When this was a pay to play game I busted your balls a lot on the forums for some of the games issues since you were the community guy, a lot of people did, yet you kept on as the community guy though some very dark times. To a lot of us you're like Mr. Shadowbane. You don't have that kind of realationship with other developers in other games...and now you're gone.
Take care, sir, good luck, and thank you very much. We all appreciate what you did for us, always have. You'll be missed.

Really lame. Was Ashen the head developer? I was around testing beta too, so this blows. I was contemplating not even coming back because of the server wipe--not because it isn't a good idea, but because of time.
Maybe he went to start the new MMO using the Mech Warrior template?
Yeah, in my dreams. A MMO using Mech Warrior as it's theme and instanced first person battles.
Please, someone make a CoD type game that is MMO. Somehow, someway.
Anyway, back on target. It blows that you have to leave at this hard time in SB.
Life goes on I guess. No one said the pleasure would outweigh the pain.

I've been in lurk mode for a long time but figured I come out to say so long for now to a great guy. I can't count the number of times in the past you helped me personally with issues and problems.
It's been a long road with SB. Thanks for your dedication to what will become known as a legendary game in the history of hard core PvP oriented MMORPGs and to a unique community committed to getting the most out of it.
Those of us who were around in beta and stuck through everything over the two years following release would probably all agree it was a special time that will never be repeated for us again.
Good luck and keep in touch.
