Here's how I invision this situation. There is a bunch of starved sharks in a holding tank, eyeing the SBG employee standing out on a plank, ready to drop a small little peice of meat....

I've sort of gone into the watching and waiting mode. I've realized that the vast majority of posters here are SB players and that, other than me it appears, most posters here really want SB2. Anything short of that will be greeted with disappointment. So rather than bring my opinions to the discussion and watch them be opposed by almost all who post here, I am in "lurk" mode.

I am also watching to see what clues about the new title arise. I don't want the dev team to drop many hints or too much. There seems to be almost an art to the "hype-management" that accompanies MMO development. SWG was sunk before its launch due to bad "hype-management."

That and the fact that a Star Wars game was released without the ability to fly a Spaceship!

That still blows my mind.

yea, talk about shooting one's self in the foot! you are right. that is what killed Star Wars. it would have had HUGE numbers if they launched with Good space content.

SoliTear, if not from SB, where exactly you come from and how did you ended up at this obscure message board? What kind of game *you* want Future Fantasy MMO to end up? Last but not least, if PvP title is not something you want to get involved in, why are you here? Don't get me wrong, your opinions are valued and it is refreshing to read opposing point of view, but at this point SBG has *nothing* going on for them other than PvP crowd following. Would you throw away *the only* thing going on for you?

I heard about this new "product" from MMORPG.com. I am looking for a "fresh" and new MMORPG and this one definitely sounded like a product that would have a fresh look to it. I am an unusual player in that I usually play to what the game gives rather than bring expectations to the game.

Just for the record. I have and will play PvP. I've never been a "superior" PvP player. I usually have a sub .500 record in PvP activity. I do enjoy the competition of PvP. I've just seen too many games that ended up being gank-fests where those who have the upper hand will never ever lose the upper hand and the game ends up with the "haves" and "have-nots". It is that permanent imbalance that I hope future PvP games can avoid.

True story.

I am just looking for something new. I am an old SB player, but I got burned out. I don't like WoW though it had amazing graphics. I know this won't be a PvP centric game. GvG or NvN I can see much more likely, but I know that it won't cater to PvP players. I think it would be better off if catered to non-PvPers with the intent to draw them into the GvG or NvN realm. The game would be GvG or NvN centric, but intented to draw those who aren't into those games, or those into games like WoW into more of a battling atmosphere. Just my 2 cents, but I dont see the game PvP heavy.

But could SBG throw us a bone or something. How about a picture?

What makes you think so?

Welcome SoliTear. Dont let these blood thirsty SB players run you or others like you off. They mean well :)

What makes you think so?

Do you really think that this game will be built around a PvP enviroment? PvP centered games (that have the chance of actually losing something) don't fare well. People like WoW and GW to a degree because you can't lose anything when you die. If SBG appeals solely to Shadowbane players, the game will go the way of Shadowbane, they need to draw people from other crowds.

IMHO the game will need to be the type of game that is focused around GvG or NvN; PvP yes, but to a lesser degree. On top of that, it needs to be somewhat able to be an alternative to larger games (WoW, GW, etc.) to attract those crowds because in the end its about making a game that can make some money. You have been kidding yourself if you think they are making it solely for the sake of gameplay, SBG needs paychecks too.

Lastly, the game isn't SB2. I don't think SBG will be making a carebear game anytime soon, but I won't be expecting a hardcore PvP game either. I am predicting a game with a larger scope than PvP (aka NvN or GvG) centered game with some elements that we haven't seen in SB before that some hardcore RPKer might see as carebearish.

That's just what I think, I could be wrong, but its my 2cents. /Flameon

We went over this before in great detail. (http://www.straybulletgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1513) At this point its *your* speculation, so post it starting with "I think" not "I know'. I happen to disagree what what you *think*, but if you *know* something I don't then speak up.

Very true, its just my opinion, and you are welcome to disagree. Isn't this all conjecture anyways? What we have for hard proof is they bought an engine, and two pictures, one with an ape and the other with an elf riding a shaggy lizard beast. Anyway, point taken.

if anything i would guess it would be pvpcentric. As you said WoW and GW are not. SBG does not ahve the budget they do, ergo, its better to go after a niche in the market. The PvP market is increasing and i think SB was a good sign of that, the following it had for as long as it had with a literally broken game. There is a market out there for it but i would say make it more lorecentric pvp as that brings into another aspect of the game, give people a reason to follow lore and you willg et alot more stories generated in game.
If you build it they will gank.
