Ok, now that i have the history, what does it mean to me? Or is it like: if you dont know, dont ask?

Its an instant messaging client like (MSN, ICQ, AIM, etc.). With some additional features, like the fact that it allows you to call a LAN line, and video conferencing. The link I put there has everything you need to know about it. A skype name is similar to a ICQ number or a Passport email address.
